An Angelic B*tch's Climb Up the Social Ladder - Chapter 15
Chap 15- Teasing Her
In a high-end Western restaurant in Sanlitun, the music flows from the pianist absorbed in playing, his fingers dancing across the keyboard.
On the Western-style dining table in front of floor-to-ceiling glass, a dazzling chandelier is reflected on the shiny silver knife and fork on the dinner plate. The waiter served in an ordered fashion, and within moments the pre-dinner loaf and steak were served.
“Mr. Jiang, is your preferred wine still the same?” the waiter asked.
Jiang Ting leaned on the back of his seat and nodded.
Then Zhinan saw the most dazzling scenery. The waiter picked up the bottle from the ice tray; bright red liquid flowed into the decanter, like dancing roses, the faint scent drifted out from the container.
The waiter who did the whole procedure was professionally sharp and had nimble fingers. In a flash, the wine had settled in the wine glass placed in front of her.
“Thank you.” Zhinan whispered, then picked it up and took a sip, her brows instantly lifted.
The look of sparkle was almost written on the face.
She asked Jiang Ting, “Mr. Jiang, do you come here often?”
The girl sitting on the white statuette stool seemed somewhat reserved but mostly excited. In the eyes of the man opposite, was her holding onto the glass and taking small sips now and then.
Jiang Ting looked away and said, “Sometimes.”
“Then you must be super lucky.”Zhinan said as she looked out the window, “Look for yourself if you don’t believe me.”
The crowd was like a tidal wave, every single person was like tiny dots. Jiang Ting has long gotten used to this scenery so he felt indifferent.
“I’ve been in the capital for three months and I love Beijing at night.”
Zhinan spoke in a low voice as if sharing a treasure trove of her own. Talking about the night lights and traffic that was revealed after sunset, was as if watching a movie about fireworks.
“I checked online on places in the capital for night view. The most recommended ones were the Qiyi Building observation deck and the skyscraper. This Western restaurant is on the 21st floor of the skyscraper and is a natural place for night view.”
“That’s why I said you were lucky.” She said, “But so am I, for finally fulfilling another wish.”
She used “you” and “you(honorifics)” interchangeably, but the night and wine made her clearly out of her normal state– looking out the window with one hand propping her cheeks up, her finger tapping on her face.
Seeming just like a child who was completely absorbed.
Jiang Ting’s lips upturned, “Then you have a really small wish.
Zhinan was surprised.
“Seeming really hardworking.” he said, “when in actual fact, most things you do are useless.”
“….” Can’t he cease giving her a heavy blow.
Zhinan took a sip of wine with a dejected expression, “Then you’ve never seen my hometown.”
Jiang Ting heard her mutter, “Nights are filled with nothing but darkness, no street lamps lighting. There will be horrifying rustling sounds of bamboo leaves behind the house.”
After a few more sips, seems very fond of this, Jiang Ting thought as he frowned at the sight of her empty glass.
After a while, he noticed that she hadn’t touched the knife and fork yet, and her eyes were quietly watching his movements then falling back to the dinner plate– her intent obvious.
This is trying to learn from him?
Jiang Ting raised his eyebrows before picking up the knife and fork.
Sure enough, she picked it up as well.
Rib-eye steaks imported from Australia and destined for some Western restaurants in China have their own unique cutting method.
Cutting the rib-eye steak against the grain was convenient and delicious while cutting with the grain made it extremely laborious.
For some reason, at this certain moment, Jiang Ting unexpectedly decided to change direction.
Across the table, Lin Zhinan copied what he did– cutting with the grain.
He was stronger and only required barely any effort to cut it, but it was very tough for the girl, a few cutting motions and the steak was still tough as a cookie, as she cut anxiously the knife fell onto the porcelain plate to a “clang” sound.
All of a sudden, the air was silent, and Lin Zhinan’s ears were blood red.
She looked up to see Jiang Ting staring at her, and the arc of his mouth tells volumes.
