An Angelic B*tch's Climb Up the Social Ladder - Chapter 16
Chap 16- Ambiguous
Childish!
Don’t think I didn’t see it. Jiang Ting noticed she didn’t know how to cut steak and wanted to prank her. Can you be any more obvious?
But since the young master wants to play, she could only pretend to act blur.
It’s just…Zhinan couldn’t help suspecting that this man enjoyed pranking others for his own amusement.
Or does he like to watch people make a fool of themselves?
She was still internally greeting(cursing) Jiang Ting’s ancestors of eighteen generations, but on the outside, she had rosy cheeks from drinking wine and embarrassment.
In disguise, she took a drink from the glass, and another drink as her eyes shifted around but just not looking at Jiang Ting.
She decided not to touch the steak and only ate the bread and oysters etc., the weird taste made her frown. Her hungry stomach was far from being filled up and her whole being felt a bit sick.
He glimpsed nonchalantly and asked, “Why aren’t you eating the steak?”
“……” you’re asking now, ain’t I pretending to show you?
Lin Zhinan was red-eared and remained speechless.
Her soft fingers are silently grasping the tablecloths, as if in a silent protest.
Jiang Ting glanced over, hooked his lips, “Can’t cut through?”
She nodded, “Hmm.”
He signaled the waiter on the side and the plate was removed. Apparently to cut the steak for her.
Dessert arrived at this juncture, two servings of blueberry cakes with a few brightly colored blueberries decorated on top.
At this moment, Lin Zhinan’s heart jolted; slowly scooped a small spoonful into her mouth, the cake beneath got lesser and lesser but the few intact blueberries still lay on top.
“Don’t like blueberries?”Jiang Ting noticed her movements.
Lin Zhinan, “Hmm.”
[According to Tang Yanan’s classmates, she seems to have a strange habit of liking to eat strawberries but detests eating strawberries decorated on top of a cake. She says she dislikes the combination of cream mashing with the sour-sweet taste of strawberry– as if she were eating bad yogurt. ]
[But trawling through the video of interviews now that she’s famous, there was no mention of it. This is worth examining.]
“Blueberries taste weird with the cream. I tried it in the cake shop before, but the combination made it taste as if it’s soured.
“I thought the other fruits would taste strange too on a cake, but surprisingly it matches well– nice, sour and sweet.”
The floor-to-ceiling glass shimmered with neonlights that reflected on her peach blossom-red face, exposing her current state– a bit of intoxication, with her head bowed, seeming in slight agony.
Jiang Ting on the opposite side of the table paused movements with his cutlery knife at her words.
Once done, they left the Western restaurant, the car was parked a short distance away. The girl was walking a few meters behind Jiang Ting with small footsteps.
By 10 o’clock at night, the alleyways behind Guomao Square had few passers-by, and as the neon lights spread, their shadows were cast ever more sideways and ever more distant.
When she called the waiter over to prepare to pay the bill after eating, she was told Mr. Jiang had settled the bill with his account. Zhinan was not the least bit surprised at this but wore an expression that seemed extremely surprised and sorry, as if she was the one offering to treat but instead had a free meal.
Jiang Ting, more so than ever before, was quiet and expressionless, even when taking the lift down from the Western restaurant.
Zhinan also pretended not to know while following behind him, her footsteps were floating like cotton.
When in actual fact, she was uncertain internally.
YU’s Psychology professor said—
“He will come to believe it as the truth if it’s repeated continuously to him.”
But the professor didn’t tell her how to repeat? The repetition rate? And the psychology of that man.
It is always harder to understand a real human being than just what’s depicted in a book, and she is not sure whether she had made the right move, much less expected to bear this indifference of his.
It wasn’t until the footsteps behind Jiang Ting had faded that he remembered someone was following behind.
Looking back, the girl 10 meters away had wobbly footsteps as if stepping on a cloud. The light of the streetlamp reflected in her watery yet bright eyes.
The epitome of a drunkard.
Jiang Ting, “You can’t drink?”
The wine had a strongly delayed after-effect, he wanted to warn when he saw her drink one after another half a glass of wine. He thought this person would stop after two drinks and had some self-control.
Looks like he gave too much credit to someone who can’t hold their liquor.
Hah……
“Huh?”
The slightly heavy tone left the girl slightly bewildered, staring at him like she wanted to bore a hole through him.
Jiang Ting’s face darkened at her staring.
She appeared to be pondering his question, yet strayed from the main point with her reply, “I thought the wine was pretty good, I want more.”
She licked her lips after saying so, the wine was good to the last drop.
Jiang Ting can’t be bothered to point out her lack of logic, he stood on the sidelines waiting for the driver, but his slightly chilly face is telling of his bad mood.
The girl was not aware of it and slowly approached him– flowers blossomed from her cheeks and all the way to her eyes.
Her eyes were like waves of water, but behaved while in front of Jiang Ting, waiting for his instructions.
The girl’s face was red, her eyes were moist and clear. When she looked directly at him, it was as if she would cut through his heart.
Jiang Ting stared at her for two seconds and silently took a step back, letting her walk in front of him and paying attention to her feet.
“Mr. Jiang, did you study at a university abroad?” Zhinan wondered in curiosity.
Jiang Ting ignored her.
She isn’t bothered. She looked towards the sky and said to herself, “You’re smart, your brain…should be pretty useful.”
To have used the word useful.
She’s indeed drunk.
Jiang Ting stared at the wobbly back of her head without a word.
Lin Zhinan who had her back to him, fixated her eyes towards the sky– a little drunk daze and an unspeakable ambition.
She wants to enter Yanjing University so badly.
Her unspoken thirst beat rapidly in her heart. She wanted to just tell Jiang Ting, let her go to Yanjing University. Just a hook of his finger can change her life forever. Help her.
She’ll be eternally grateful to him.
But she can’t. She dare not.
An act of impulse would be enough to turn her life upside down.
“If only I could be as smart, have the best grades in the county…Or even just the whole town.” She turned around and murmured, “This way… my parents wouldn’t have forced me to quit school, and I wouldn’t have…snuck out.”
Jiang Ting noticed that her steps had gotten even more wobbly.
“But” before she finished speaking, her body started to slide down weakly.
The man looked up and pulled her arm back.
The girl stumbled and ran into him.
Her soft body fell completely into his arms, and the soft chest even bounced against his chest.
Jiang Ting’s heart skipped a beat as his lips pressed into a thin line.
He held onto her arms and pulled her up but her head moved naturally to rest on his shoulder.
The girl’s cheeks were soft and warm, pressed against his neck. Every exhale towards his neck was burning hot.
He stiffened.
Jiang Ting gazed down at her, her small delicate lips were right before his eyes– glistening lips that were slightly parted.
He can even see her red tongue against teeth. Just a little lowering of his head and he could fully capture her lips with his.
The best position to kiss.
A sweet scent whisks its way into his nose– little by little as if ecstasy.
Jiang Ting stared for a short while, his eyes slowly moved up.
The perpetrator, too slowly came back to her senses, struggling to open her eyes to see him clearly– the tall man blocked the light before her, in the darkness, she could only see a blurred outline.
So she blinked hard, and Jiang Ting felt as if he was looking at a butterfly working hard to spread its weak wings.
Her eyes clear as spring water clearly reflected his face– hazily confused, full of innocence, and mixed with the seduction of drunkenness, mashing it all into a vortex of unknowing sexiness.
Expanding larger and larger– sucking him in.
An invisible ambiguous air crept up on their nearly touching faces, burning hotter and hotter as their breathing interlocked.
The next moment, the unfocused blinking eye finally became clear.
Bashful and at a loss.
“Sorry, Mr. Jiang…” Lin Zhinan immediately pulled away from him, sobering up.
She stood next to him like a child who had made a mistake, her head lowered with twisted fingers, stuttering, unable to utter a complete sentence.
Any surging(if it exists) couldn’t be identified from Jiang Ting’s expression. His hands tucked into his pockets, “Let’s go.”
